On Me

VERSE 1 - ARLO MAVERICK
Black excellence
I love when we build our own
Divine blessings
That everybody tries to clone
For us by us
Word I often love to throw
Complexed bias
You know my pockets kind of broke
Grand closing
Another business shut its door
Cause you paid full price in a Gucci store
And Gucci’s more
Buy black right?
Oh that Louis lure
Made my Interac swipe
Part of the reason why we’re last in line
We’ll spend a whole day waiting Prada line
Looking down on our businesses
We’re not interested
In supporting people who live where we live
Til we get it half price
We ain’t finna act right
Robbing niggaz
Like we was white in our past life
All of this cause we don’t accept us
Everybody spends with their own
Except us

CHORUS - DIRT GRITIE
Well, it’s on me
If I’m gone follow they lead
It’s on me
If I’m gone honor they creed
It’s on me
If I got a story to tell
That’s on me
But first I really gotta believe
It’s on me
Now I gotta do it myself
That’s on me
And they don’t buy my shit off the shelf
That’s on me
Well tell them all go to hell
That’s from me

INTERLUDE 1
We live in a capitalist society
And, we just don’t have enough black capitalist
We have a lot of black consumers
As one guy from Atlanta said to me once
In life your either, I don’t know if this applies
But he said you're either a pimp or a hoe
You choose

VERSE 2 - ARLO MAVERICK
Black owned slept on
White owned best job
Code switch get on
Color blind hell nah
Ya’ll better step off
Only here to check off
Boxes for a quota
Meanwhile at this desk job
It goes unspoken
That I’m the token
Praise diversity
Won’t promote it
Get called racist
So they show him
Can’t blame them
It’s what I’ve chosen
One of the reasons why we often fail
We pray for opportunities to no avail
We don’t trust those
Who look like us
Everything sus
Everything sucks
Bar so high
Can’t succeed
Accept from them
But expect of me
Excuse late wages
No inventory
Let it be us…
It’s a whole different story

CHORUS - DIRT GRITIE
Well, it’s on me
Everytime I speak I get canceled
It’s on me
If you got a quota to meet
That’s on me
If I gave a brother some help
It’s on me
For these BOBs to succeed
It’s on me
And I ain’t got two pennies to squeeze
That's on me
Generation wealth
That’s on me
You gone put that on me

INTERLUDE 2
So we want to talk about creating industries right? When you thinking about industries it’s not just presenting this one thing that is going to be successful. You have to think about, okay this one thing so what else surrounds that thing and if we can provide that then we can capitalize on this particular industry.

VERSE 3 - DIRT GRITIE
I don't date my shit or they gon place my shit
On some ancient list
Want’em to rate my hits
Amongst the greats and if they can't relate that's it
Then I'll take my shit and go away I guess
To a domestic life where I can raise my kids
Who gon hear Poli Live and wanna play them hits
And so I planted a seed, branched a tree
Food, clothing, shelter that's all on me
Until we’re dust in the wind cause that's all we’ll be
Live to hear some kind words at your eulogy
Woo is me, talking so foolishly
MFM, BIP that could fall on me
And I don't mean to reflect but it's just this beat
To put that nod in your neck, you can call on me
It’s 1-800-Dirt-Gritie
I’ll take that responsibility

INTERLUDE 3
To me what comes with supporting a black business would be putting your money where, where you believe that money would go far and you would get what you are trying to pay for.

You basically voting with your money. See what I mean. So you supporting me that means you're voting for me to continue selling. But if you’re not getting the standard of service that you think your money requires or values. Then you should not be supporting that business. Regardless if they’re black, white, blue or purple.
